Notice

This rank no longer exists, and was in effect at the time of national service. They wore caps and called themselves "chief"; moreover, they most often had the same responsibilities as the second masters. The "choufes above 10" were nicknamed "Two reds and a Pastis" or "Mexicans", because of the mixture of colors of their stripes, very close to the Mexican equivalent of QM1. We can make a comparison of this rank, which disappeared in 2000, with that of "first class master corporal", still used in the Army only.
